Who Am I – The Story Behind the Mozziland Cattery
Hi, I'm Carla, and I want to tell you a little about my history with cats and how it led me to create the Mozziland Cattery.
For as long as I can remember, I've always been surrounded by pets. I've had puppies, birds, fish, turtles, and other animals, but, incredibly, cats have never been a part of my life.
When I got married, the story remained pretty much the same. We had our children, and our daughter, being a true animal lover, believed our house was a zoo. She wanted to bring all sorts of animals into the house, but for some reason cats were never accepted.
I always thought cats were "deceptive" animals, not as affectionate as other pets. They seemed to have a more independent demeanor, and because of that, I believed they wouldn't be ideal for our home.
But, like any mother, I found myself researching purebred cats, their personalities, and what it would be like to live with a cat. I decided to give it a try and, finally, we brought our first purebred cat home.
The experience was transformative. My passion for felines grew so intensely that, in less than a year, we already had our second cat. Each one of them had unique characteristics, and I fell even more in love with these furry friends.
Today, I can say with certainty that the reason Mozziland Cattery exists is directly linked to the love and admiration I feel for these felines. The desire to share with others the unique experience of having a purebred cat, with all the affection, respect, and care they deserve, is what motivated me to create this space.
At Mozziland Cattery, our mission is to breed purebred cats responsibly and lovingly, so that more people can experience the joy of having a feline companion that brings love, comfort, and friendship to their home.
About Mozziland Cattery: The Story of Our Passion for Cats
I'm Carla, and together with my family, I have the honor of sharing with you our journey with purebred cats, which began in 2001. Our story as cat breeders doesn't start in a simple cattery, but in our own home, a place where felines are treated as family members.
For many years, we lived abroad, which gave us a unique opportunity to experience the feline world from an international perspective. Now, almost at retirement age, waiting for grandchildren, we've returned to Portugal, seeking our roots and a calmer life. A new life cycle. But I couldn't stop breeding cats... they are a part of me, as is the joy and love I feel in being able to share this love with each of you.
Outside of Brazil, we conduct extensive studies on breeds, genetics, care, health, and all the characteristics involved in breeding pedigree cats.
With the help of renowned breeders, who made their sires and dams available to us, we began the process of forming our feline family.
Responsible and Loving Breeding
At Mozziland Cattery, our cats are not just pets – they are life companions.
Each of our felines is treated with the care they deserve, with a commitment to providing them with the best possible environment for their development.
We don't use cages or enclosures; our cats have free access to the entire house, with clear divisions for males, females, expectant mothers, and mothers with their kittens.
Our home is where puppies grow up healthy and balanced, as part of our family. Some of our mothers even refuse to have their puppies anywhere other than our bedroom, and that's where they stay, without question. This is only possible because we have a large house, carefully planned to provide maximum comfort for our furry friends.
Mozziland Cats: Family Members, Not Just Pets
All of our kittens live with our family and are very spoiled. They roam around the house, lie on our laps, participate in our routine, and are socialized with us from the very first moment. This affection and daily interaction make the kittens' adaptation to their new families much smoother and more natural.
Our main goal is to make you fall in love with cats the way we do. We believe that successful adaptation lies in the love and dedication of the new family. When this happens, a relationship of mutual trust and joy is born for everyone.
The Nobility of Our Feline Lineages
All Mozziland cats come from noble bloodlines across Europe, with high-quality genetics. Our cattery is registered with TICA and FIFe, guaranteeing the transparency and seriousness of our responsible breeding work.
We do not participate in cat shows because we believe the benefits of these events go to the breeders, not the cats.
Our feline friends don't care about titles or awards – for us, cats always come first.
We respect other opinions, but our priority is always the well-being of our feline friends.
Our Commitment to Family and Puppies
At Mozziland Cattery, responsible breeding is our top priority.
We don't use traditional puppy questionnaires because we believe each person can tell us what they think we want to hear. However, we do have principles that we strictly adhere to:
If, between the time of booking and the delivery of the puppy, we realize that the new family is not compatible with what we expect for our puppies, we will terminate the contract and refund the amounts paid.
If, after delivery, we learn that the puppy is being neglected or mistreated, we will take the necessary measures, including retrieving the puppy, without any compensation to the owner.
These commitments are clearly laid out in the Mozziland kitten reservation contract because we take our commitment to our cats and the families who adopt them seriously.
Our Booking Process
We do not accept reservations before the puppies are at least 20 days old, have been evaluated by our veterinarian, and are 100% healthy.
We don't have waiting lists.
Each puppy is treated with the utmost care, and every adoption is carefully considered.
Our fees reflect the fact that we do not charge for cat shows, as we do not participate in these events.
We don't pass on employee expenses, as we take care of all aspects of the cattery ourselves.
Mozziland Cattery: A Family Cattery, for Your Family
Our mission is to provide healthy and happy cats to families who share the love and respect we have for these incredible animals.
With years of experience in the responsible breeding of purebred cats, the Mozziland Cattery continues to be a reflection of our affection, dedication, and commitment to quality.
Why multiple breeds?
Throughout life, and even now, the concept persists that an ethical breeder only breeds one breed and dedicates themselves exclusively to it.
I've never been one to limit myself to general concepts, and I've always believed that if I want something, it won't be because prejudice says "no," that I won't follow my dreams for that reason.
I absolutely love all the breeds I create; each one has its own unique characteristics. It's impossible to choose just one.
Just like with a human child, a mother's heart doesn't choose between one child or another. The heart simply expands and loves each one just the way they are.
Studying and learning about each of the breeds, of course, takes more work and requires more time. But I consider myself intelligent enough to study them all, not just one.
Creating just one would be much easier, I agree. But never stop doing something just because it would be more difficult.
In short, I breed several breeds because I love them all and never wanted to choose just one.
